Commonshelf is a shared reading library — you log books, keep a private journal, and let people you choose follow your shelf. This page is the complete account of what data that requires, and where the line sits between what's shared and what stays yours alone.
Everything below is information you give us directly by using the app. We don't buy data about you from anyone else.

We don't run analytics SDKs, ad networks, or third-party trackers. Nothing about how you use the app is sold or shared with advertisers, because there aren't any.
Journal entries are the one thing on Commonshelf that's structurally private, not just hidden by a setting. never fetched for anyone but you
This is enforced at the database level, not just in the app's interface — the server itself refuses to return your journal entries to any account but your own. Nobody who follows you, browses your shelf, or reviews your library can see a single word of it, and that includes us: journal content is never read, scanned, or used for anything beyond displaying it back to you.
Strictly to run the app you're using:
We don't use your data to train models, build advertising profiles, or for anything beyond making Commonshelf work.
Your data is stored with Supabase, our database and authentication provider, behind row-level security rules that enforce the sharing boundaries above at the database itself — not just in what the app chooses to display.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time, directly in the app: open the side panel and choose Delete account. This immediately and permanently removes your profile, your entire library, every journal entry, and all your follow relationships. It can't be undone, and we don't hold a copy afterward.
Commonshelf isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. The app does let you mark a book as Young Adult / Children's — that's a content label for classifying what you've read, unrelated to who's using the app.

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Commonshelf after a change means you've accepted the update.
